As we usher in another year, it’s the perfect time to set your intentions and goals that resonate with what you want to accomplish. New Year’s resolutions are more than just yearly traditions; they are a way to look to the future of where you want to go or what you want to accomplish.

To help you kick-start this journey, I’ve created some handy New Year’s Resolution Templates and Printables just for you. Whether you’re looking to get fit, organize your life, or learn a new skill, our templates are designed to make your New Year’s resolutions a success!

Let’s Talk About It!

What Are New Year’s Resolutions?

New Year’s resolutions are commitments that we make to ourselves to improve on our lives, learn new skills, or achieve a specific goal.

We always have good intentions for ourselves and resolve to make the next year a better one. Or So we think.

By the time February or March rolls around, we forgot about those resolutions, or they were too far-fetched to become a reality. Or, life just got in the way, and we did not stick to them.

Ask me! I have been there.

Why We Make New Year’s Resolutions

Reflection and growth for the New Year offers an opportunity for us to want a change. We think about what we want to accomplish and make a goal for that to happen.

I like to think of these things as opportunities. If you put your mind to your resolutions, and it is something you want to achieve, you can do it.

Motivation and focus on setting resolutions helps channel your energy toward specific goals, providing a clear focus for the year ahead. If you do not stay focused, it won’t happen.

You need to keep a positive mindset and manifest what you want! If you set a resolution, you need to believe you will accomplish it and continue to tell yourself that.

Types of Templates to Create

Goal-Setting Template: A simple, flexible format for outlining specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals.

I used SMART goals in my career development planning when I worked in retail management. I also used them with my team, to help them with their own goals for their positions within the company.

It helped them to have those specific goals of what they want to accomplish, the time frame for how they will accomplish these, making sure they were achievable for them as to the work they would need to put into it, that it was relevant to their position or where they wanted to grow in the company, and lastly when they wanted to accomplish this by. One month, 6 months, 1 year?

Having SMART goals is probably the smartest (see what I did there?) way to accomplish any goal in life whether it be your New Year’s resolutions or any other goal you have in life.

Habit Tracker: A printable to monitor daily habits that contribute to larger goals, perfect for fitness, reading, or meditation resolutions.

Staying accountable for habits you want to reinforce, will keep you on target. Having it printed out, in front of you daily can help to attribute to your success. Put it on your bathroom mirror, your refrigerator, your bulletin board at your desk, any place you look at daily to remind you to keep track and stay on track.

Monthly Planner: A detailed calendar to plan steps towards resolutions each month, with motivational quotes and tips.

There are many motivational quotes to find on the world wide web. For example: Always be kind to yourself. Never compare yourself with others.

My watercolor instructor always made us take an oath before we painted.

I promise to be kind to myself, I promise not to compare myself to others and I promise to have fun!

Keep that as your mantra, like I do. We are not perfect and sometimes fall, we pick ourselves back up and move forward. Be kind to yourself.

Vision Board Template: A space for visualizing goals with images and affirmations, fostering a positive mindset and clear vision.

I love vision boards. I create mine on Canva, and find pictures and quotes or what I want my future year to look like. You can make one for business, for personal, and even help your kids make one.

My vision board has my goals, long term and short term, photos of my grandchildren to remind me that I want to leave a legacy to them, accomplishments I want to have made, and of course there is always some sort of ocean or beach scene.

Hang your vision board somewhere you look at daily to remind you what you are working towards. I not only hang mine but use it as my wallpaper on my laptop. A daily reminder.

What to Include in the Templates

For your templates that you want to create, below are some sections and other items to include.

Clear Sections: Divide the templates into sections like ‘Goals,’ ‘Action Steps,’ ‘Timeline,’ and ‘Progress Notes.’

Your goals, action steps and timeline should all be a part of your SMART goals. Keep space for progress notes so you can see how far you have come. The best part is when you see you are making progress sooner than what you thought and it encourages you to keep going!

You can even make a graph to chart your progress.

Don’t worry if you have a set back. Life happens. I always say, “pick yourself back up, dust off your knees, and keep going.” Remember – be kind to yourself!

Inspirational Quotes: Sprinkle in motivational quotes to inspire and uplift.

On your templates, write in some words or quotes that make you feel good. Words that give you joy and happiness.

Here are a few to think about:

  • I am capable of achieving great things.
  • Everyday brings new opportunities
  • I trust in my journey and its unique pace
  • Challenges are opportunities for growth
  • I am worthy of success and happiness
  • I choose positivity in all situations
  • My dreams are valid and achievable
  • I am surrounded by abundance
  • I embrace change as a path to improvement
  • My voice and ideas have value

Here is one that I recently learned to say to myself “I am open to unexpected gifts from the universe.” By Coach Chef Kim.

You can find many more affirmations on the internet as well as I encourage you to read the article below.

Check out this article on The power of positive self-talk, affirmations, and reframing. Fiona has some great tips on this subject.

Keep your printed New Year’s resolutions somewhere where you will see it everyday. Or create some affirmation cards to place on your bathroom mirror, desktop, refrigerator, etc. to remind you that YOU CAN DO IT!

Like I said before, always be kind to yourself. You are your biggest champion for you. Be your own advocate. When you think good thoughts about yourself, good things can happen. Manifest it! Make it happen!

Remember, the journey is just as important as the destination. As you use these templates to guide your path, be kind to yourself and embrace the journey of growth and improvement. Here’s to a year of making things happen and living the life you envision!

Stay Colorful, Stay Creative, and HAVE FUN!
